Start the weekend by joining David and friends for a relaxed welcome brunch at The Gage, one of Chicago's beloved Michigan Avenue gastropubs right on Millennium Park. Enjoy great food and the perfect chance to meet fellow guests before the festivities begin.
📸 The Chicago Bean — Millennium Park
After brunch, step directly across the street to Millennium Park and Cloud Gate — the iconic silver "Bean" sculpture. It's the perfect backdrop for group photos with everyone before heading off to explore. The Bean is located in the AT&T Plaza within Millennium Park, right on the lakefront. Free admission.
After the Bean photos, the afternoon is yours. We suggest three wonderful options — or mix and match!
⛵ Chicago Architecture Boat Tour
One of the most celebrated experiences in the city. The world-famous Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise takes you along the Chicago River past dozens of iconic skyscrapers with expert docents narrating the story of Chicago's architectural legacy.
Getting there from the Bean: Head west on Randolph Street or follow the signs down to the Chicago Riverwalk along the south bank of the Chicago River. Walk west along the Riverwalk — a beautifully landscaped path lined with restaurants, bars, and river views — approximately 0.6 miles to the tour departure docks near Michigan Avenue Bridge (DuSable Bridge). Tours depart from the Chicago Architecture Center Dock at 111 E. Wacker Drive. Booking in advance is strongly recommended — visit architecture.org.
🎨 The Art Institute of Chicago
One of the world's premier art museums, the Art Institute of Chicago is literally steps from The Gage and the Bean — its main entrance is just south on Michigan Avenue at Adams Street. The Institute is renowned for its breathtaking collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings, including masterworks by Monet, Renoir, Seurat, and Picasso. Don't miss Georges Seurat's "A Sunday on La Grande Jatte," one of the most recognizable paintings in American art.
Film buffs will recognize the museum from Ferris Bueller's Day Off — the famous scene where Ferris, Cameron, and Sloane wander through the galleries was filmed right here, including Cameron's mesmerizing close-up study of Seurat's pointillist masterpiece. Keep an eye out for the grand staircase and the Gunsaulus Hall of Medieval and Renaissance arms. Visit artic.edu.
And here's a story worth knowing: Bill Murray has credited a painting in the Art Institute — The Song of the Lark by Jules Breton, depicting a young peasant woman pausing at dawn in a field — with saving his life when he was in a state of deep depression. Murray has said that something about the painting's quiet, hopeful beauty stopped him in his tracks and gave him a reason to keep going. The painting hangs in the museum's collection and is well worth seeking out. It may move you more than you expect.
Directions from the Bean: Walk south through Millennium Park to the museum's Modern Wing entrance (a 2-minute stroll), or continue to the main Michigan Avenue entrance at Adams St.
🏛️ Obama Presidential Center
The Obama Presidential Center, located in Jackson Park on Chicago's South Side — President Obama's home city — is scheduled to open in June 2026, just weeks before the wedding weekend. This extraordinary museum and community center will celebrate the legacy of the 44th President and First Lady Michelle Obama.
While tickets are not yet available for general admission, we are actively trying to secure a block of tickets for wedding guests for Saturday afternoon, July 25th. Stay tuned — we will send an update as soon as we have more information! Visit obama.org/presidential-center to learn more.
🌊 The Chicago Riverwalk
One of Chicago's most beloved urban spaces, the Chicago Riverwalk stretches nearly a mile along the main branch of the Chicago River through the heart of downtown, from Lake Shore Drive to Lake Street. It's a beautifully designed waterfront promenade lined with restaurants, bars, kayak rentals, seasonal boat docks, public art, and stunning views of the city's iconic skyline towering above the river on both banks.
Grab a drink or a bite at one of the many open-air spots along the water, rent a kayak and paddle under the bridges, or simply stroll and soak in the architecture from river level — a completely different perspective than you get from the street above. The Riverwalk is free to access, open to the public, and absolutely buzzing with energy on summer afternoons. It connects naturally with the Architecture Boat Tour docks (Option A), so the two pair beautifully together.
Getting there from the Bean: Walk west on Randolph or Washington Street toward the river — about a 5-minute walk — and follow the stairs or ramps down to the Riverwalk level. Or head down from Michigan Avenue at the DuSable Bridge. Free admission; individual venues along the walk have their own pricing.
All wedding guests are invited to a warm Welcome Party for All Guests at the delightful Mrs. Murphy and Sons Irish Bistro on Lincoln Avenue. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet Breanna and David and celebrate together the evening before the big day. This charming neighborhood gem brings the spirit of an Irish pub together with a thoughtful, elevated menu — the perfect setting to gather everyone the night before the big celebration.
The party will be held on the second floor of the bar, where drinks and small bites will be served. Come ready to toast the happy couple, meet old friends, and make new ones. See you there!
